Scottish Schools

Three Fins’ Swimmers qualified for the finals of the Scottish Schools Championships which were held at the 6 lane x 50m Dollan Baths in East Kilbride last Friday.
This was their first long course competition for some time and everything considered they did very well.
Top Swimmer for Fins and the only medallist was Kyle Pate, 17 to 19 boys and representing Lochgelly High School. Each swimmer is allowed a maximum of two swims at the Championship and qualifying for the finals is done at the local regions throughout Scotland. If the swimmer thinks they are well placed in more than two swims at the qualifying stage then they have to choose the two that will give them the best opportunity in the Championships. Kyle qualified through the Fife Schools’ Championships back in November at the Michael Wood Centre, and did choose well gaining the Silver Medal in the 100m Backstroke, losing out to Scott Gibson from Mearns Castle School and Kyle in turn just touched out Joe Watt from the Glasgow School of Sport.
Kyle also gained a bronze medal in the 200m Backstroke behind Finlay Deans, North East Scotland College and Joe Watt.
Again, in the Backstroke, Caitlyn Dodds, 15/16 girls and representing Auchmuty High School, gained a 5th place in 200m. This was always going to be hard for Caitlyn who was at the wrong end of the two year age group and having turned 15 just over a month ago. Caitlyn also had a 6th place finish in the 100m Backstroke and encouragingly showed an improvement in both swims.
The third swimmer was Claire Thomson, 15/16 girls and representing Inverkeithing High School, who had a 12th place finishing in the demanding 200m Butterfly.
Swimmers from Fife Schools won a total of 9 medals – 3 silver and 6 bronze.
