EDAG Round 2

14 Fins’ swimmers qualified to swim at the Scottish East District Age Group Championships held at the Michael Woods Centre, Glenrothes, last Saturday and Sunday.
It was a mixed performance from the swimmers with the Saturday producing the majority of the PBs which at one point saw the improvement rate up at 75%. However, the performance level dropped on the Sunday to produce an overall improvement rate of 58%.
All the swims were 200m and all had heats and finals with the top eight in each event progressing to the finals along with two reserves. The good news is that there was one District Title won and one silver medal. In total Fins had 5 swimmers who qualified for a total of 11 finals plus a further three who were reserves for a total of four finals. The remaining six swimmers all had a least one PB.
Top swimmer for Fins was 14 year old Caitlyn Dodds who won the 15 years girls Backstroke title. Although Caitlyn turned 14 less than one month ago, she is classed as a 15 year old because her 15th birthday is before the 31 December this year.
Caitlyn had a very close race just touching out Erika Coupek from Kelso. Caitlyn started out fast and had a lead of 6 tenths of a second at the first turn. This was pegged back to just 2 tenths at the half way mark and at the three quarter distance Erika move into a lead of 1 tenth of a second. However, Caitlyn fought back once more to take the title by just 3 one hundredths of a second. Caitlyn qualified for two more finals finishing 4th in the Freestyle, with a very good PB and 6th in the Butterfly.
Kyle Pate, 17 and over boys, came close to a title with a very good PB but had to settle for the silver medal, again in the Backstroke. Kyle again qualified for two more finals, finishing 4th in the Breaststroke and just touching our teammate Arran Stowe. Kyle’s other final was Freestyle where he finished in 8th place.
Arran Stowe, 17 and over boys, finished 5th in the Breaststroke and was 6th in the Freestyle. Arran just missed out on a third final finishing a 1st reserve or the Butterfly.
Michael Strang, 14 years boys, finished in 8th place in the Freestyle.
Rhianna Henderson, 11/12 years girls, qualified for the Butterfly final in 8th position, but unfortunately had to withdraw.
The three swimmers who just missed out on a final were:
Claire Thomson, 16 years girls, 1st reserve Butterfly; 2nd reserve Backstroke
Ne┼ża Dolenc-Luznar, 13 years girls, 1st reserve Freestyle
Sam Lewis, 16 years boys, 2nd reserve, Breaststroke.
The two biggest improvements came from Lucy Brice, who reduced her Backstroke by 9.93 seconds to move her up the entries to 15th and Sam Lewis who also reduced his Backstroke time, this time by 9.20 seconds giving him a 14th place.
The remaining swimmers with their highest placings were:
Lucy Brice (16G) – 12th
Callum MacDonald (16B) – 12th
Kirsty Davis (15G) – 13th
Ben Lewis (13B) – 13th
