As yet untitled...FIRST Meet

Eighteen Fins’ swimmers were at the Xcite Pool in Bathgate, last Saturday and Sunday in the first competition of 2017, which was the FIRST (Falkirk Integrated Regional Swim Team) Open Meet, and they competed very successfully recording 86 top ten placings from 125 swims individual swims. This included seven of the swimmers winning a total of 33 medals.
The improvement rate was a good 60%, especially coming off a winter break.
In addition to the individual swims Fins were placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th in the relay events.
Top swimmer for Fins was Caitlyn Dodds, 14/15 girls, who from 9 swims, over the weekend, won eight and was 2nd in the 9th swim. Caitlyn’s gold medals were won in the 50m and 100m Butterfly; 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle; 50m and 100m Backstroke; and the 200m Individual Medley. Caitlyn also won a silver medal in the 200m Backstroke.
Kyle Pate, 16 and over boys won 3 gold medals, 2 sliver and one bronze medal. Kyle’s winning events were 200m Backstroke, 200m Freestyle and 100m Individual Medley. Kyle’s silver medals were in the 400m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke and his bronze in the 100m Freestyle.
Two more gold medals were won by Stephanie Strang, 16 and over girls, in the 100m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle. Stephanie also won four silver medals and they were for 50m and 100m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 50m backstroke, and a bronze medal in the 100m Individual Medley.
Arran Stowe, 16 and over boys, won a gold medal in the 400m Freestyle and won four silver medals for the 100m and 200m Freestyle, 200m Breaststroke and 400m Individual Medley. Arran also won two bronze medals for the 50m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke and just missed out on a further two finishing 4th in both the 100m and 200m Individual Medley. Kyle and Arran had a real nail biter for the silver medal in their 100m Freestyle with Arran taking the silver by just one hundredth of a second.
Fins’ final gold medal was won by Theo Goodfellow, 14/15 boys, in the 50m Breaststroke. Theo also won two bronze medals in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke and finished 5th in both the 200m Butterfly and 400m Individual Medley, 7th in the 200m Individual Medley and 9th in the 100m Individual Medley.
Fins’ final silver medal was won by Sam Lewis, 14/15 boys, in the 50m Breaststroke. Sam also had two 4th place finishes in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke, an 8th place in the 100m Freestyle, breaking the minute barrier for the first time, and two 10th places in both the 50m and 100m Butterfly.
The final bronze medal was won by Kirsty Davis, 14/15 girls, in the 200m Butterfly. Kirsty also had two sixth place finishes in the 100m Butterfly and 400m Individual Medley and an eighth place in the 200m Backstroke.
The remaining top ten placings were:
Michael Strang, 12/13 boys, who tried very hard to win a medal but had to settle for five 4th places. These came in the 100m and 200m Freestyle; 100m and 200m Individual Medley; and 100m Butterfly. Michael was also 5th – 50m Butterfly; 6th – 100m Backstroke; 8th – 50m Freestyle; 9th – 100m Breaststroke and 10th 50m Breaststroke.
Callum MacDonald, 14/15 boys, 4th – 100m Freestyle; 6th – 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley; 7th – 100m Backstroke, 100m Butterfly, 100m Individual Medley, and 200m Freestyle; 9th – 100m Breaststroke; 10th – 50m Backstroke.
Neža Dolenc-Luznar, 12/13 girls, 4th – 200m Freestyle; 6th – 50m, 100m and 400m Freestyle; 7th – 100m and 200m Backstroke; and 10th – 100m Backstroke.
Euan Pate, 16 and over boys, 4th – 100m Butterfly; 7th – 100m and 200m Individual Medley; 8th – 50m Butterfly; 9th – 50m Freestyle.
Rhianna Henderson, 8 to 11 girls, 4th 50m Butterfly; 6th – 50m Breaststroke; 9th – 50m Backstroke.
Lyndsay Haig, 8 to 11 girls, 4th – 50m Freestyle; 7th – 100m Backstroke
Lucy Brice, 14/15 girls, 6th – 100m Individual Medley; 8th – 50m Freestyle; 9th – 50m and 200m Breaststroke.
Megan Ovens, 14/15 girls, 9th – 200m Backstroke.
Julie Davidson, 12/13 girls, 10th – 50m Backstroke.
The two swimmers who didn’t quite make a top ten finish were Ben Lewis (12/13) and Tianna Pease (14/15). The good news for both is that all their swims resulted in PBs and both had a top placing of 16th.
In addition to the individual swims Fins entered four open relays, no age groups, with the following results.
Girls 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay – 1st. – Team – Stephanie, Caitlyn, Neža, and Lucy.
Boys 4 x 50m Medley Relay – 2nd – Team – Kyle, Sam, Arran, and Callum
Boys 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay – 3rd – Team – Callum, Sam, Arran, and Kyle
Girls 4 x 50m Medley Relay – 5th – Team – Caitlyn, Lucy, Megan, and Stephanie.
In terms of improvement the top three were Ben Lewis, who reduced his 50m Butterfly by 24.95 seconds, although he hadn’t swum this in over a year, Theo Goodfellow, who reduced his 200m Butterfly by 8.40 seconds, and Kirsty Davis who reduced her 200m Butterfly by 8.05 seconds.
