Scottish National Age Group Championships
 Seven of Fins’ swimmers qualified for the top Age Group Competition held in Scotland, during the year, where all of the top age group swimmers from Scotland, and beyond, participated. The event, which ran from Wednesday morning through to the Sunday evening, was held at the Glasgow Tollcross Park International Swim Centre, scene of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. A few of the Scottish Stars of the games were competing including Ross Murdoch, Robbie Renwick and Hannah Miley and their presence, along with very strong University and City Teams, made life difficult in the 17 and over age group. In the 200m boys Freestyle event the first five places went to Stirling University swimmers with an Edinburgh University swimmer in 6th place.
Fins’ top swimmer, and only finalist, was Kyle Pate. Kyle, who is at the bottom end of the 17 and over boys’ age group, secured a 10th. place finish in the final of the 50m Backstroke. Kyle is still 16 but age is taken as the 31 December. He was also second reserve for the 200m Backstroke finishing 12th in the heats, and was 14th in his 100m Backstroke.
Also securing a 12th place finish was 17 year old Arran Stowe, 17 and over boys, in the 1500m Freestyle. Arran also gained a further two top 20 placings, finishing 18th on both the 200m Butterfly and 400m Individual Medley.
The remaining swimmers were:
Greg Turner (18), 17 and over boys, who gained a top 20 finish in all of his four events throughout the week. Greg’s top finish came in his 200m Individual Medley where he finished 14th. He was also 15th in the 50m Breaststroke; 17th in the 100m Breaststroke and 19th in the 200m Breaststroke.
Claire Thomson (14), 15 years girls, had three top 20 placings finishing 15th in her 400m Freestyle and 18th in both the 200m Butterfly and 400m Individual Medley.
Michael Strang (12), 11 to 13 years boys, who’s top finish was 17th in his 50m Butterfly, with a PB.
Callum MacDonald (14), 15 years boys, who’s top finish was 20th in the 50m Freestyle, with a PB
Sam Lewis (14), 15 years boys, who’s top finish was 23rd in both his 50m
and 100m Breaststroke, with two PBs.
In terms of improvement the swimmers returned a very acceptable 60% improvement rate with the top two going to Claire, who despite reducing her 200m Freestyle time by 3.96 seconds finished in 21st place and Michael who reduced his 50m Butterfly time by 2.12 seconds.
