Fins Competitive Swim Club
Scottish Schools’ Championships
Eight Fins’ swimmers qualified for the finals of the Scottish Schools’ Championships and for some of them that was the hardest part as qualification is restricted to the top twenty times, 10 for the 17 to 19 years age group, recorded at regional events held throughout Scotland in November.
The event was held at the Tollcross International Swim Centre, Glasgow, last Saturday. The improvement rate was down to just below 50% but the Fins’ swimmers achieved one medal plus a further five top ten finishes.
Top swimmer for Fins was Kyle Pate, Lochgelly High School, 17 to 19 years boys, who won a bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke. Kyle also finished 6th in the boys’ Open age group 400m Individual Medley.
Just missing out on a medal in the 17/19 boys age group was Arran Stowe, Balwearie High School, when he finished in 4th place in the 200m Butterfly. Arran also had a 5th place finish in the boys’ Open age group 400m Individual Medley.
The other top ten placings came from Claire Thomson, Inverkeithing High School, who was 7th in the Girls Open 400m Individual Medley and Greg Turner, Balwearie High School who was 8th in the boys’ 17/19 200m Individual Medley.
The other four swimmers to qualify were – Lucy Brice, James Gray, Callum MacDonald and Sam Lewis all (15/16), and all Balwearie High School.
Most improved swimmer was Lucy who reduced her 200m Freestyle time by 8.08 seconds. Arran reduced his 400m Individual Medley time by 3.62 seconds.
